Frequently Asked Questions

Who are we?

The Newbury Yacht Club, formed in the mid 1960’s, is an active Club based in Berkshire of around 120 members catering for sailing and cruising enthusiasts, particularly for those whose main interests lie in cruising the Solent, South Coast, Channel Islands and Northern France.

What do we do?

We organise very popular weekend sailing rallies during the summer months as well as one slightly longer cruise either along the South Coast or across the Channel. These are informal in nature, very sociable and usually attract a dozen or so boats on each event.

During the winter, we also organise monthly social meetings, most of which include a talk and/or presentation from an invited speaker on some marine related subject of interest to our members. Two purely social functions, held in local hostelries, are the ‘Lifting Out’ supper(usually known as the ‘Christmas Do’) and the ‘Fitting Out’ supper in the spring to mark the arrival of the new sailing season.

When and where do we meet?

During the summer, members will often make individual arrangements to meet up with other members in the Solent or local vicinity; however the Club will normally organise one weekend rally early and one late in the season. The longer cruise is usually around mid summer.

In the winter (September to May) the Club meetings are at 7.45 pm on the second Thursday of each month at the British Legion Club, Pelican Lane, Newbury.

How do I join?

Contact us via the contact area of this website or, just turn up at one of our meetings (see programme on this site) and ask for one of our committee members. You will be made most welcome. Then if you enjoy it and want to join (most do!), you will be surprised that the subscription is almost nominal.

NEW – You can soon apply online, return shortly for updates.
